When to Visit Panna Tiger Reserve

Best Season

October to March — cool temperatures, excellent wildlife activity, and lush post-monsoon greenery that opens up for outstanding sightlines.

Park Open

October to June — the reserve is open for jeep safaris from the first week of October through June 30 each year.

Park Closed

July to September — the reserve is closed for the monsoon season. The resort remains fully open and waterfalls are spectacular.

Panna Tiger Reserve is open October through June. The ideal window is October to March — cool temperatures, excellent wildlife activity, and lush post-monsoon greenery that gradually opens up to offer outstanding sightlines. Summer months (April–June) offer the highest tiger sighting probability as animals congregate near water in the heat.

Each season at Panna offers a completely different experience — from the cool crisp winter mornings to the dramatic monsoon waterfalls.

Best Season

The best all-round experience. Pleasant days, cool mornings, peak wildlife activity, and clear sightlines as the foliage thins. December–February are the jewel months. Ideal for families, first-time visitors, and photographers.

Warm but Rewarding

Ironically, the hottest months offer the highest probability of tiger sightings. Animals congregate near the Ken River and water holes. Sparse vegetation means open sightlines. Safaris are scheduled at first light and dusk — the rest of the day you relax at the resort.

The reserve is closed for conservation, but the surrounding region transforms. Pandav Falls, Brihaspati Kund, and Raneh Falls are at their thundering best. The Ken River runs full and the forest is a vivid green. Perfect for those who love waterfalls, photography, and peaceful off-beat travel.

What to Bring

Packing light but smart makes a real difference on safari. Here is what to bring for each season.

Winter

October – February
  • Light layers and a mid-weight jacket for early mornings
  • Neutral, muted colours — earthy tones only
  • Binoculars — essential for birds and distant sightings
  • Camera with zoom lens (200mm+ recommended)
  • Water bottle — at least 1 litre per person
  • Comfortable closed-toe shoes

Summer

March – June
  • Lightweight cotton — breathable fabrics only
  • Wide-brim hat and UV-protective sunglasses
  • High-SPF sunscreen — reapply on long safaris
  • Minimum 2 litres of water per person
  • Alarm set for an early start — sunrise is your friend
